Lesson Plan

Introduction: Ice Breaker; Try team building activities and name games.  Keep ice breakers an time range of 5-10 minutes.
Overview of Goals

This workshop is designed as a lecture workshop.  If you want to add some hands on activities, we advice you set up an geo caching event using the GPS units afterwards.

You will need to use the Global Positioning System and Geographical Information Systems PowerPoint located in the materials section.  On the slides them self is very basic text.  On the PowerPoint are notes at the bottom for the presenter to read before speaking.  These notes will help you understand what is in the presentation so you can do your best in presenting it to your audience.

To go along with the PowerPoint are handouts that your audience can take home with them so they remember what they have learned during the presentation.  There is also an file under the materials section on how to use an blue E-Trex Legend GPS unit.   You can also find the information about the 4-H ESRI Grant, which is on the 2006 grant.  Make sure to tell the audience this is old information.  If they would like to have the current information on the ESRI grant visit http://www.esri.com/grants/esri/06003_4-h_fy06.html

If you have time at the end of the workshop, we recommend introducing the audience to an GPS unit and have them go on a geo caching adventure.  For more information about geo caching, take a look at the Geo-Caching Workshop in a Box from the California 4-h Computer Corps.
